Acts of the Apostles
I am so excited to be spending time thinking about the book of Acts, and what it looks like to be a Church family on a mission. For those of you who watched Spring Harvest, the theme was also on the book of Acts, and Malcolm Duncan drew attention to the end of the book of Acts, in Acts 28, where Paul is locked in prison! However, Acts concludes that despite Paul being in prison, the Gospel still went out without hindrance. In the original Greek that is the last word of the book of Acts. Without hindrance. The word of God is not hindered by COVID-19. The Gospel still advances. Paul also wrote 2 Timothy from prison, and while in prison, chained up, he writes with confidence “I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not bound”. I feel the parallel is really strong. Just like Paul, we can’t go out, we can’t preach, worship and witness in the way we would like to! But I feel really excited that Paul’s confidence can be our confidence. God’s word is not hindered or chained. It is a double-edged sword! The Lord watches over his word to perform it. The word of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul. The word of God is also a light for your feet in the weeks to come. I simply wanted to write to you and remind you that there still is immense power in the word of God. Bless you, Tom.
